Huge congratulations to our Junior Soccer girls who secured a thrilling 4–3 victory over Our Lady’s College, Greenhill in the North East Regional Final today.
The game burst into life early, with the Drogheda side finding the net within the opening five minutes. Loreto responded with great determination, and a stunning free kick from Fionnuala Conlon brought the sides level.
What followed was a fiercely contested battle, with both teams evenly matched throughout. Drogheda regained the lead, but Loreto’s resilience shone through. A solid defensive display from Kayla Chambers, Katie McNally, and Andrea O’Reilly laid the foundation for a counterattack, allowing Jane Smyth to drive forward and fire home the equaliser, leaving the score 2–2 at half-time.
The intensity continued into the second half, with both teams pushing hard. Ruby McDonald delivered a standout performance in defence, consistently clearing danger and initiating attacking play. Despite facing a strong Drogheda backline, Loreto broke through when a long ball from Kayla Chambers found Lucy Doyle, who calmly slipped past the final defender and finished brilliantly to give Loreto the lead.
Drogheda responded once more, equalising with just five minutes remaining and setting up a tense finale. As the game edged towards full-time, it seemed destined for extra time – but Loreto had other plans. In the final minute, Fionnuala Conlon played a perfectly timed pass through the middle to Charley Coogan, who struck decisively to seal a dramatic victory.
The sideline erupted in celebration as the final whistle blew. Captain Katie McNally proudly accepted the North East Regional Shield on behalf of her team.
