Last week, Our Loreto Junior Soccer Team played their first game of the year. Loreto got off to a flying start against Clonturk, dominating from the opening whistle. Jane Smyth opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a brilliant finish into the top corner, before Siobhan doubled the lead in the 14th minute from an assist from Jane ., while Sadhbh and Ellen were excellent in defence. Despite Ellen having to come off injured in the 23rd minute, Loreto continued to press, with Lucy scoring twice and Jane adding two more before half time.
The second half continued in much the same way. Clonturk managed to score to make it 6–1, but Loreto quickly responded. Ella scored a blazing goal 12 minutes into the 2nd half, followed shortly after by another goal by Jane Smyth from a throw-in. Anna Mai showed fantastic pace, skilfully driving past defenders, while Kayla Chambers kept the defence organised and Zara Chambers made important clearances. Bella was also impressive in goal, showing great composure throughout. Siobhan added another goal in the 70th minute to complete a fantastic Loreto performance. With outstanding attacking play from Jane, Lucy, Siobhan and Ella, combined with strong defending and excellent teamwork across the pitch, Loreto were deserved winners.
Final score: Loreto 10–1 Clonturk.
