Last Wednesday, TY students participated in a presentation by Katie Matthews, owner of Marley’s Pals Boarding Kennels,Slane, on caring for animals from home pets to professional care.
Katie, a past pupil of Loreto Navan, qualified as a registered veterinary nurse from DkIT in 2021. Since then she has worked in some of the most specialised veterinary hospitals in Ireland. Katie now owns a specialist boarding kennel (Marley’s Pals) in Co Meath providing expert, compassionate care for dogs with medical and additional needs. Marley’s Pals was proudly awarded Specialist Pet Service of the Year 2025 at the Pet Excellence Awards Ireland, recognising their commitment to high-standard, individualised care for every dog entrusted to them.
Katie also spoke with the students on possible routes into veterinary nursing. It was such an informative and heartwarming presentation.
