Our theme for Social Justice Week 2026 of ‘Women – Rooted, Responsive and Relevant’, shone through our activities on Wednesday. Sinéad Burke, Disability Advocate, Teacher, Author and Creator of ‘Titling the Lense’, spoke to TY, 5th and 6th year students and teachers. We were also joined by our guests from Erasmus+ and by TY students from St.Patrick’s Classical School and from Beaufort College for the event. SInéad spoke about the importance of inclusive design, her advocacy work, the power to change and taking action. She reflected on how her own moral compass was developed through her experience of Social Justice Week in the school ,during her own time here as a student. Her talk and discussion held a powerful space for the students to speak about these important issues in today’s society. Katie Wallace Collier the Meath Coordinator of ‘Hygiene Hub’ spoke to 3rd year, TY and 5th year students about hygiene poverty and with a particular focus on period poverty. We intend to run a hygiene drive to support the work of ‘Hygiene Hub’ in the coming weeks. Ailis Hankinson, Meterologist with Met Éireann met with 2nd year students to discuss the climate crisis, action and changes in weather. 1st year students were treated to some more peer-teaching by 5th years where each class group’s workshop turned the traditional classroom into a Human Ludo Action, where Global Citizenship Education and working with the Sustainable Development Goals led the way.
