U16 Gaelic Football

Our Loreto Junior Gaelic girls kicked off their campaign today against Scoil Chríost Rí (Portlaoise) in Navan O’Mahonys today. The girls were off to a phenomenal start, passing and moving the ball around in confidence. It was an exciting contest between the two teams, with Scoil Rí (Portlaoise) proving to be a strong opposition and playing some excellent football in the first half. The girls battled hard creating many chances for each other. Ella Weldon scored our first point, followed by another point from Siofra Maguire, which determined the girls to work and battle harder. The backline began to make some excellent tackles and put in a brilliant defensive performance against the opposition’s strong forwards. Half time score was 2-05 to 0-02 in favour of the Portlaoise girls.

The girls brought their outstanding performance into the second half, as Ella Weldon scored our first goal. Despite Scoil Chríost Rí adding more scores to their tally the girls continued to show superb dedication. There was excellent teamwork between the girls during the second half and they will build on this performance. Although the result did not go our way the effort and determination the girls put into the match was remarkable. The girls should be very proud of their performance.
