Welcome to the official website of Loreto Secondary School, St Michael's, Navan, Co Meath.
St Michael's is one of a family of Loreto schools in Ireland founded through the charism of Mary Ward - foundress of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM), known in Ireland as Loreto. These values are Freedom, Justice, Joy, Sincerity and Truth. We try to live these out in St Michael's every day we come to school. As a school community, we measure ourselves by these values. We make a strong commitment to the development of the whole person, and this is evident in our promotion of an impressive range of extra- and co-curricular activities. The Loreto sisters opened the first Catholic school for girls in the Navan area in 1833, they have served the educational needs of the area for close on two centuries.
The diversity and richness of the student population reflects our open enrolment policy. Students with roots in almost 20 countries cross the threshold of our school every day. "A Tradition for our Future" is the motto of the school which caters for the community of Navan and the surrounding rich tapestry of the Boyne Valley. In St Michael's, we recognise the contribution of each and every member of our school community. We strive to ensure that each student will reach her potential and that each staff member will develop and grow in the spirit of learning and collaboration.
One of the great strengths of this school is the fostering of student leadership, which was very evident to me upon arriving at St Michael's. The girls have shown time and time again that by being given responsibility, they prosper in terms of leadership skills and self-confidence. Leadership opportunities include our Student Council, Senior Prefect team, Head Girls, Peer Mediators, Class Prefects, and many more. The tradition of academic excellence has been future proofed with the strong emphasis on digital literacy now embedded in the fabric of the school curriculum.
St Michael's offers an invitation of welcome to all pupils, past pupils, parents and staff past and present.
Thank you.
