On Thursday the 2nd of October, Transition Year students in St Michael’s Loreto Navan held their annual ‘Grandparent’s Day’ celebration. It was a glorious occasion for all, with well over 100 grandparents in attendance. Preparations for the event began weeks earlier with it being thoughtfully planned. The Community Care class worked tirelessly to bring the day together, with assistance from their TY Coordinator and Community Care teacher , Ms Sheila Carroll. The day commenced with tea and coffee, alongside a host of laughter and many emotional reunions. The grandparents were visibly overjoyed to be invited to such an occasion.
As a community care class, we acknowledged our appreciation for our grandparents. We held activities such as a free raffle, singing and various musical performances in honour of them. Our free raffle went down a treat! We enjoyed a sensational performance of the songs ‘Forever Young’. ‘Slipping Through my Fingers’ and ‘Dancing Queen’. Furthermore, talented pianists performed a special piece triggering joy and even tears from their audience. As the Grandparents said their heartfelt goodbyes, it was evident just how impactful this day was, for both the students and Grandparents. There was also a candle lit in remembrance of those who have passed and those who were unable to attend this special day. A tree was created to symbolise and display our core Loreto values; justice, joy, sincerity, truth and freedom. As a school we thrive to live out these values throughout our daily lives.
We would like to express our gratitude to all of those who contributed to this exceptional day. To all our school staff, thank you, this would not have been possible without your constant diligence and help.
Finally, a huge thank you to all our Grandparents, their continuous support and guidance is much appreciated.
Happy Grandparents Day to all!
