TY Future Leaders Module

2nd Year Basketball Blitz

The Basketball tournament was organized by my class Newgrange as a part of our GAA
future leader’s programme. We were told to organize a blitz tournament for 2nd years.
Everyone had a role on the day we had referees, timekeepers, scorekeepers, equipment
managers, coaches for each team, cheerleaders/hype and stewards.
We had 8 teams in total Justice 1, Justice 2, Freedom, Teresa Ball, Sincerity, Joy, Mary Ward
and Truth. We started of with quarter finals on the 8th of November and each team played
at least one game which was 10 minutes long. The winners of those games were Justice 1,
Justice 2, Sincerity and Teresa Ball.
On the 15th of November we had the semi-finals and finals. Justice 1 vs Justice 2 and
Sincerity vs Teresa Ball played their games and Justice 1 and Teresa Ball won their game and
won. We immediately started the final so we could stay on schedule and we used the full
court, we had two referees managing each side of the court. Justice 1 won in the end. We
knew we did our job because every single person left the hall with a smile on their face. This
module really taught everyone from the coaches to the referees on how they can be a
leader to others. In conclusion I would recommend this module to future TY’s so they can
learn how to be a leader to others.
