International Day of the Girl

The International Day of the Girl is marked by the United Nations to celebrate
the potential of all girls, all around the world.

As was Mary Ward’s dream, continued by Teresa Ball who brought this vision
of education to Ireland two hundred years ago, every girl is called to celebrate
life in its fullness, even in places where this has been difficult and threatened.

We celebrate girls who are leaders in our school, communities, volunteer
associations, sporting and cultural groups, in Ireland and throughout the

and hearts, hands and feet, to advocate for our sisters and to learn from their
resilience and hope.

On the International Day of the Girl, we unite with the global Mary Ward
network as we celebrate two hundred years of Loreto and join together to
reflect and learn. We ask God to help us to live in a spirit of Justice, Freedom,
Sincerity, Truth and Joy – today and always.
